Southend
boasts miles of award-winning beaches ranging from the olde-worlde
charm of Leigh-on-Sea with cockle sheds to the busy East Beach with
the longest pleasure pier in the world.
Families
with young children are well catered for with amusement parks like
Adventure Island on the seafront near the pier. There are also traditional
amusement arcades and bingo on the seafront.
The
famous Kursaal is also worth a visit.Shopping
in Southend is a pleasure. As the largest town in Essex it is well
served by all major high street retailers, but also has a wealth
of interesting boutiques and craft stores.
The
surrounding shopping centres of Leigh and Westcliff offer an alternative
to busy Southend.
Southend
has many first class restaurants, you can sample fine cuisine from
all corners of the globe. Add to this a variety of wine bars, clubs,
traditional pubs, night spots and cafés and you will not be short
of choices in the evenings.
The
parks and gardens of the town are a joy to behold. The spectacular
cliff gardens, with views over the Thames Estuary and Kent, are
a particular highlight. Priory Park is another of several parks
that enable the town to regulary win 'Britain in Bloom' awards.
There are also wildlife conservation areas to enjoy.
The
Air Show, usually conducted over the May Bank Holiday, is a particular
highlight of Southend's year and attracts around half a million
people over the weekend. Now in its 16th year, it is Europe's largest
free air show!
Many other events fill the summer months with something for everyone.

theatres, art galleries, museums, a planetarium, a sea life centre,
a jazz festival, the spectacular carnival and much, much more going
on throughout the year you will struggle to be bored in this exciting
and cosmopolitan town!
